Polonsky Shakespeare Center
2013
Architects: Hugh Hardy, H3 Architects
Address: 262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn
Easily one of my favorite new buildings in all of New York, the Polonsky, run by the Theatre For A New Audience, is a 299-seat jewel in the middle of Fort Greene’s BAM Cultural District. Designed in 2013 by Hugh Hardy, its backlit retangular glass curtain wall welcomes all visitors; inside, every seat has a perfect sightline surrounding the U-shaped stage. In the end, it’s a simple, elegant, remarkable building that houses an endlessly creative theater company.
