Prison Ship Martyr's Monument
1908
Architect: Stanford White.; sculptor Adolf Weinman
Address :Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn
Rising high over the Fort Greene landscape, with (presumably) 360-degree views of the city from its crown, the Prison Ship Martyr’s Monument, conceived by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead and executed later by Stanford White and Adolf Weinman, is a glowing beacon dedicated to the memory of Revolutionary War soldiers who died offshore in British prison ships. You can only get to the base of the tower; the best views of the city are in winter, though many buildings still peek through when full foliage arrives.
