The Grabler Building

The Grabler Building

1896

Architects: Clinton & Russell
Address: 44 Laight Street, Manhattan

Surrounded on three sides by the madness that is non-stop Holland Tunnel traffic, the Grabler Building (fortunately for its residents) nonetheless has a quiet, empty streetfront (Laight between Hudson & Varick) with very little traffic right in front of it. The building's perfect symmetry and extant signage jump out at you, even though most folks would only spot it from heading north on Hudson Street in a car. The streetlight blew out the top right of the building, making this otherwise almost perfect shot fuzzy (the pickup on the bottom left doesn't help, either). Will probably go back and shoot from the top of the Land Rover when I get the chance, but I'm happy enough with this shot to post it.
