Fiterman Hall

Fiterman Hall

2012

Architects: Pei Cobb Freed & Partners
Address: 245 Greenwich Street, Manhattan

By far the nicect building that's part of BMCC's (Borough of Manhattan Community College) physical plant, Fiterman Hall is a brand-new structure that replaced the original, damaged beyond repair by the September 11 terrorist attacks. What Fiterman Hall lacks in curvy, sensuous lines is made up for the fact that, at ground level, the Silverstein Family Park provides a lovely open space in which to get some perspective on Fiterman's south end. At night, walking along Vesey Street (either westbound, coming from the West Side Highway, or eastbound, coming from Broadway or Church Streets), your eyes always want to go towards the Oculus and One WTC; just don't forget to look north and spend a few minutes hanging here. All that's missing is a nearby tapas bar, but you can't have everything, I guess.
