Bayard–Condict Building
1899
Architect: The Right Honorable Louis H. Sullivan
Address: 65 Bleecker Street, Manhattan
The Chicago master's only New York building, this 13-story terra cotta-draped structure is hard to find and even harder to photograph, given that it's mid-block on Bleecker between Broadway and Lafayette. If it was about fifteen feet closer to Lafayette, it would be perfectly framed as the very northern terminus of Crosby Street. Alas, no such luck, so shooting is from an odd angle about twenty feet south of the corner of Crosby and Bleecker. But hey--it's a building worth the extra energy, as an award-winning 2003 restoration proved. Thanks, Louie.
