The DeVinne Press Building

The DeVinne Press Building

1885-86

Archiects: Babb, Cook & Willard
Address: 393 Lafayette Street, Manhattan
Simply one one my favorite buildings, in one of my favorite parts of town, NoHo. It sits majestically on the northeast corner of Lafayette Street and E. 4th Street, surrounded on all sides by at least half a dozen other architectural masterpieces (the Public Theater, Colonnade Row, the Bayard-Condict Building, the Great Jones Firehouse, and the Schermerhorn Building, just to name a few). Astor Wines cements the ground floor retail space; the building was landmarked in 1966 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. So I guess I'm not the only one that loves its massed brick, varied window shapes, peaked roof, and, of course, its perfect symmetry.
