Plaza Hotel
1907
Architect: Henry J. Hardenbergh
Address: 768 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan
Anchoring the southeast corner of Central Park, the Plaza Hotel is one of Henry J. Hardenbergh's Manhattan masterpieces. Not even former owner Donald Trump could really screw this place up, even though the hotel is now partially condominiums and some of its original public spaces, such as the Oak Room, have been turned into private event spaces. The Oak Bar is currently closed as well, but I'm hoping it will reopen in all its former "North by Northwest" glory. Still haven't checked out the Todd English Food Hall in the basement. I saw Barbara Walters on the steps of the hotel one day...a truly treasured New York memory. Ah, the Plaza.
