NoMad Hotel

NoMad Hotel

1903, 2012

Architect: Schickel & Ditmars; Stonehill & Taylor (renovation)
Address: 1770 Broadway, Manhattan
A happy accident. This building was not really on my radar--I just happened to be walking south on Broadway from Gilsey House on 29th Street when I saw this. I was unfamiliar with it probably due to the fact that it probably didn't have this wonderful dramatic lighting on it when I was living on 27th Street in the 1990s. Originally called the Johnston Building, it's now home to the hipper-than-thou NoMad Hotel. I certainly can't fault the renovation--it's a jewel on this stretch of Broadway now. And apparently the New York Times agrees.
