Spring Street Salt Shed
2015
Architects: Dattner Architects
Address: 336 Spring Street, Manhattan
What can I say about this structure? You either think it's brilliant, or you don't. Just thank God that they had the good sense to light this fabulous little piece of work by Dattner Architects, who also designed next door's garage for the Department of Sanitation. 5,000 tons of salt can be stored within this shed's walls, ready to be spread across the streets of the city whenever Mother Nature decides to bless us with a massive snowstorm. Let's hope she decides to do so for centuries to come--since the city, in the early morning after a large snowfall, is as sublime as this salt shed.
