Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall

1891

Architect: William Tuthill
Address: 881 Seventh Avenue, Manhattan
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Well, several trains are available...ah, just kidding. One of New York's greatest concert venues and probably the best building on 57th Street. I love this shot with the cabs in front and a Department of Transportation portable sign at the lower left, reminding us what else the city is filled with in addition to great architecture. At night, anchoring the southeast corner of W. 57th Street and Eighth Avenue, it's a beacon of high art. Except for when, say, Chicago comes to play for a week (circa 1971), or Louis CK does stand-up. Then it's just cool.
