The United Nations

1952

Architects: Oscar Niemeyer, Le Corbusier

Address: United Nations Headquarters, Manhattan

A beacon of hope to international cooperation best seen from Queens—fittingly, since over 160 languages are spoken there. I tried to do the classic vertical of just the Secretariat Building from Tudor City, but I just couldn’t get off a decent shot. I do like the presence of East River here, in addition to the fact that you can see some of the other UN buildings as well. The inevitable march of progress is represented by the crane and the top of One Vanderbilt As great as it all is….it would have been nice if Frank Lloyd Wright had been given a shot at this (did I say that out loud?).
